Theswastika is an ancient Indian symbol that derives from the Sanskrit wordsvástika स्वस्तिक. The wordस्वस्तिकis a grammatical composite from सु + अस्ति + क which means (Su-good, Asti - to be, K - object suffix) "may it be well with one." The Swastika is found in its right-facing (卐) form or its mirrored left-facing (卍) form. Symbologically, the Swastika is a Brahmi morphograph - where the individual letters for SU ASTI K - are morphed into a composite symbol. This morphograph is unique that is is a logograph is created by morphing its phonographic components.
You should look at the story of the Gundestrup Cauldron, a bowl found at Himmerland, Gundestrup Denmark, 1891 in a peat bog.
Dated at first century BC, it has figures of a meditating Shiva, a Swastika, a possible Dharma-chakra /or a (Vishnu?) figure with a discus, sundry snakes,it is an object of considerable interest. It raises more questions than give answers.
How did the Swastika travel to Denmark? How did the Gundestrup Cauldron reach there - as the Danes did not have the technology of skills to make such a bowl? What was Shiva doing in Denmark?
would love to read more on this and such discoveries. :)

2ndlook:
ReplyDeleteThe Cauldron, as many historian agree, was of Persian origin (western part - possibly Turkey).
Although - the origin could easily have been further east of Turkey - but don't think Western Historian won't let go of this "treasure." :-)
Cool morph!! Looking forward to more posts as well!!
